Day 3 fantasy impact rookie receivers

The 2016 NFL Draft featured several skill position players who we liked more than where they were actually drafted. The good news is that some of these players landed in excellent spots for fantasy football purposes.

Earlier this week, I looked at seven late-round rookie running backs who are poised to make a fantasy impact in 2016. Now it's time to move to wide receiver and tight end.

The same rules apply. For a player to qualify, he must be a Day 3 draft pick or UDFA. Let's take a look.

Malcolm Mitchell – Patriots

Mitchell dropped to day three because due to a small sample size of success and injury concerns. Don't let those issues fool you. Mitchell has the tools that translate to the X receiver position in an NFL offense. He possesses an incredible catch radius at 6-0 with massive 10.5-inch hands, a 129-inch broad jump and a 36-inch vertical. He also ran 4.45 40-yard dash.

In addition to his plus athletic projection, Mitchell was able to win in a variety of ways last season. Despite seeing under 100 targets and catching 58 passes, Mitchell had a reception on nine different routes. He forced a missed tackle every 4.46 receptions, he dropped just four of 93 catchable passes over the past two seasons and he caught 19-of-20 catchable pases on hitch routes.

Mitchell has the makings of a much better X receiver than Brandon Lafell ever was, and he finished as fantasy’s No. 22 wide receiver in 2014 while operating as the team’s X. The Patriots got a steal here, and it won’t take long before he jumps on the fantasy radar.
