Fantasy preview of the Big 12, Part 1

The Big 12 provided absolute must-see television last year with a late-season stretch of outstanding matchups. Those in charge of the conference are currently perusing programs with sights set on bringing the total number of teams to 12. Houston, Memphis, Cincinnati, etc., have been approached and the conference could be in the midst of major change. But for now, they are who they are, so let’s begin the redraft and developmental fantasy appraisal of the conference for 2016.

(We're breaking the Big 12 into two parts, with Part 2 coming tomorrow, because there is a lot of firepower in the conference and you'd be reading forever if we did it all in one. For the rest of our college fantasy preview, click here.)

Kansas State Wildcats

At first glance, the Wildcats would seem to be in the clear, with the majority of 2015 snaps returning at quarterback and running back, and with a deep collection of wideouts. The other side of the coin, though, is that they lost FB Glenn Gronkowski and 79 percent of offensive line snaps. That shifts the outlook to a bleaker forecast. The quarterback situation currently boils down to Jesse Ertz, Alex Delton or Joe Hubener. We have eight rushing attempts over the last two years and shaky high school footage to analyze Ertz. Delton would offer significant potential on the ground, but throws off his back foot and fails to properly transfer his weight forward. A situational time-share could be in the cards and would essentially sap the value of all involved. Also, watch the progression of four-star true freshman QB Skylar Thompson, who could develop into a fantasy stud for 2017.
