Running Back
Ronnie Hillman, Denver – What the heck happened here? I just can’t explain it. Maybe current Denver head coach John Fox was rooting around behind the practice facility and found former Denver coach Mike Shanahan’s notes on how to torture fantasy football owners. That’s the only way I can explain what happened with Hillman in Week 12. The rookie had spent early-season games climbing the depth chart and working his way into a meaningful role as Willis McGahee’s change-of-pace back. Then, McGahee goes down with an injury … so it’s Hillman’s time, right? Right? Wrong. Fox reached under one of those Colorado boulders, pulled out the afterthought they call Knowshon Moreno, plugged him in, and played him 86 percent of the offensive snaps. And Moreno delivered with 24 touches for 111 yards. Meanwhile, Hillman saw his lowest snap count since Week 5 and ran the ball three times for 9 yards. Believe it or not, the rumors of Knowshon Moreno’s demise were greatly exaggerated, while the thought that Ronnie Hillman will close out the season as Denver’s feature back is looking mighty shaky.
