Ravens could use a boost in pass rush in the draft
- Rookie Matt Judon led all current Ravens in pass-rush productivity (measuring sacks, hits, and hurries relative to number of times rushing the passer) with a rating of 9.4 in 2016. He ranked just 30th amongst the 57 qualified 3-4 outside linebackers.
- Terrell Suggs finished with a PRP of 8.4, 37th among that group of 3-4 outside linebackers. Suggs hasn’t finished with a PRP of greater than 10.0 (or ranked within the top 20 among his position group) since 2013.
- One player who is falling in some mocks is Derek Barnett, whose measurables make him almost profile as a Suggs clone. Barnett shouldn’t have an issue kicking out to outside linebacker, and his 16.7 PRP last season ranked fourth among all draft-eligible FBS edge defenders. If Barnett’s not there at 16, Carl Lawson would be a great fallback option in the first round. He’s a great scheme fit in Baltimore and his 15.2 PRP ranked 13th among draft-eligible edge defenders.
- If Baltimore chooses to wait until the later rounds, they should consider Tyus Bowser. Bowser will need to prove his athleticism will hold at the NFL level, but his 14.2 PRP ranked 18th among draft-eligible edge defenders.
