Position fit:

Defensive end in a 3-4

Stats to know:

48 defensive stops, third-most among interior defenders. No. 2 run-stop percentage among 3-4 DEs.

–Overall grade ranked sixth among interior defenders in this class. Fifth-ranked pass-rush grade (second when including only 3-4 DEs). No. 28 run-defense grade.

–10 sacks, 14 hits, 34 hurries, 2 batted passes. Top pass-rush productivity rating in the class (13.2) at his position.

–Won 57 percent of his one-on-one pass-rush reps at Senior Bowl practices, and earned a positive grade in the game (+1.0).

What he does best:

–Tall with long arms and good agility for his size — tested well in 3-cone and shuttle at combine.

–Graded well over the last two seasons, and his grade jumped substantially in 2015. Had just one negative overall game last season (versus UCLA). And there were times when he completely overmatched his opponent, including against Missouri’s right tackle and during the bowl game against Utah.

–Doesn’t have a great first step rushing, but keeps working. Frequently involved in cleanup and pursuit plays. Led class with a clean-up/pursuit pressure every 24.6 rushes.

–Much of his production came against guards and centers inside. He has the quickness to beat guards, and he won both inside and outside with multiple pass-rush moves, including spins and swims.

Biggest concerns:

–Balance issues at times, especially if the blocker hits him from an angle. This is evident on double teams (Nebraska game is a good example) and down blocks.

–Sets the edge well, but overall more finesse than power-oriented. Bull rushes accounted for only five of his 75 graded pass rushes.

–We thought he could use his length a bit better on some plays – saw some two-gapping but not quite as impressive compared to someone like Clemson's Shaq Lawson.

–10 missed tackles in 2015 (most in the class of defensive interior players), 18 combined over the last two years.

Bottom line:

Kaufusi spent most of his time last season at DE in a 3-man line, but played some inside and standing up. Great length and was consistently productive outside of the UCLA game.
