Eagles eyeing prospect Derek Barnett for pass-rush help
PFF’s No.2 ranked edge defender prospect, Derek Barnett, would be a welcome addition to Philadelphia’s front four. The team collected only 34 sacks in 2016, and has expressed interest in the former Tennessee Volunteers defensive end.
- Barnett accumulated 13 sacks and 78 total QB pressures during his junior year. His 16.8 pass-rushing productivity mark ranks third among draft-eligible edge defenders.
- Barnett had an extremely productive career at Tennessee, racking up at least 10 sacks in each of his three years in college, and dwarfing the pressure total of Myles Garrett over the past three seasons.
- He ranks second among edge defenders with 8.2 snaps per outside pressure, illustrating his ability to run the arc. 45 of his 78 pressures came on outside moves in the 2016 season.
- The former Volunteer edge rusher would fit perfectly as a bookend to Brandon Graham. The Eagles rotated Connor Barwin (35th overall defensive end) and Vinny Curry (22nd overall defensive end) on the other side in 2016, but the duo could only muster 30 and 40 QB pressures, respectively.
