The PFF Draft Daily will hit on a number of NFL Draft-related topics including recent news, scouting reports, PFF draft takes, and much more on a daily basis.

What Draft Pass says about Alabama prospects with “falling stock”

Draft stock is a subjective thing, and often what is perceived as draft stock is actually just the media reacting to what they hear from scouts, be that actual information or smokescreens. It's why we always hear talk of quarterbacks rising up boards late, among other things. Two players who have apparently seen their stock take a hit since the scouting combine are Alabama defensive lineman Jonathan Allen and linebacker Reuben Foster. Allen saw his draft stock take a hit due to a subpar combine performance where he didn't shine athletically, while Foster being asked to leave the combine for a disagreement prior to his medical, and subsequent concerns about his rotator cuff since his follow-up check, have hurt him.

What does Draft Pass say about both players though?

Jonathan Allen Spider Chart

What we can see from this spider graph is that, statistically and grade-wise, Allen is significantly ahead of the draft class average in every category. While his performance athletically at the combine was something of a disappointment, his production on the field was eye-popping, and that's why we think he'll be a success in the NFL.

There are four clear areas where Foster is head and shoulders above the other linebackers in this class: overall grade, run grade, run-stop percentage, and coverage grade. Those are key for a linebacker who will be on the field on all three downs, and the reason why he deserves to be a top draft pick, despite the fact that linebackers don't often go incredibly high in the draft.
