Chiefs trade up, select QB Patrick Mahomes at 10th overall

  • The Kansas City Chiefs traded up to select Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes with the 10th selection in the draft Thursday.
  • With a clean pocket, Mahomes posted an accuracy percentage of 82.9 percent, second-best among draft-eligible QBs.
  • Despite seeing pressure on 36.5 percent of his dropbacks (eighth-highest in the class), Mahomes was sacked on just 10.2 percent of those plays (third-lowest).
  • Among QBs in this draft class, Mahomes threw for the most yards (1,281) and fourth-most TD (15) on deep passes last season.
  • Just 347 of Alex Smith’s passing yards came on passes 20-plus yards downfield in 2016.
  • In college, Mahomes threw for 1,281 yards on passes 20-plus yards downfield, the most of any QB in this draft class.
