Bills likely to look for secondary impact players on Day 2 of the draft

Here we look at Utah S Marcus Williams and Miami CB Corn Elder as potential Day 2 prospects who could make an impact in Buffalo’s secondary from day one.

• The Bills need to find a replacement CB in the slot, having lost Nickell Robey-Coleman in free agency. Elder has the movement skills to play the slot on Sundays and his tackling is an asset. Elder missed just one tackle on 41 opportunities in the passing game this season and his 19 stops in the passing game were the second most among qualified draft-eligible CBs.
• Marcus Williams would make for a great Day 2 safety option for the Bills, who are still searching for a deep free safety. Williams was almost always deployed as a single-high or double-high safety in 2016 at Utah – he lined up within eight yards of the line of scrimmage on just 18.3 of his defensive snaps last season, the lowest rate among all draft-eligible safeties.
• On film Williams appears risk-averse (he seems to be quite aware that he is the last line of defense), he takes good angles and his risk aversion also pays off with his tackling as he typically chooses to wrap up and break his feet down rather than go for the big hit, which led to him finishing ninth among 119 qualified draft-eligible safeties with a 13.4 tackle efficiency rating (the number of attempted tackles per miss) last season.
