- The Chicago Bears selected Ashland tight end Adam Shaheen with the 45th pick in the 2017 draft.
- Shaheen, who is slightly more dangerous as a pass-catcher than as a run-blocker, set all sort of school and Division II records at Ashland, including catching 70 passes in 2015.
- The Galena, Ohio, native had an excellent season in 2016 as he finished with 57 receptions, 867 yards and 16 touchdowns. However, the fact that these were against lesser competition also needs to be taken into consideration when evaluating Shaheen’s production, as he looked like a man among children in his games at Ashland.
- Although the Bears have six tight ends on their roster; none of them graded above 60.0 in 2016, except for Zach Miller (81.7).
