2019 NFL Draft Profile: Jawaan Taylor, Florida

It’s hard to imagine a more improved player along the offensive line than Jawaan Taylor. From his vicious demeanor and attitude to his ability to handle opposing spin moves, Taylor has NFL scouts salivating. He took advantage of his final season in Gainesville under the new tutelage of Dan Mullen and rose to new heights and quite possibly a first round pick in the NFL Draft.

One of the strengths of Taylor’s game is getting off the line of scrimmage quick to find his assignment. His run-blocking skills and acceleration into gaps were fine-tuned in his last year at Florida, where he posted his first 80.0-plus run-blocking grade during his three-year career.

Taylor is more than a run-blocker, however. He played 93% of his snaps at the right tackle position and excelled, giving up only a single sack (to likely top-five pick Josh Allen of Kentucky in Week 2) and garnering a 77.0 pass-blocking grade and a 98.0 pass-blocking efficiency mark.

Some questions remain in Taylor’s game given four of his worst-graded games last season came against stiffer competition. He will tend to give up more penalties than most (especially false starts), is a bit slow in getting to the second level and often times uses his hands to offset opposing rushers instead of his feet.
