- After playing left tackle in 2015, Michigan senior Mason Cole was moved to center in 2016 and had success at the position. With a young, inexperienced Wolverines offensive line, Cole will prepare for a return to tackle.
- This past season, Cole recorded an overall grade of 83.7 which would be second-best among returning Big 10 centers. On 857 snaps in 2015 at left tackle, Cole recorded an overall grade of 82.6.
- While at tackle, Cole excelled in run-blocking. The 6-foot-4, 305-pounder saw a run blocking grade of 87.3 in 2015 as Michigan runners averaged 5.1 yards per attempt when running to the left.
- One aspect of Cole's game that will need to be improved is pass protection. As a left tackle, Cole allowed 28 total quarterback pressures on 467 pass blocking snaps for a pass-blocking efficiency of 95.3. Cole saw an increased PBE of 96.9 when playing at center after allowing 16 total QB pressures on 393 pass blocking snaps, but that figure still ranked in the bottom third of qualifying centers.
