Don't be afraid to stream Jay Cutler in Week 5
I feel a little like Nux in “Mad Max: Fury Road.” Week 1’s picks had me saying, “Oh, what a day, what a lovely day!” And now I feel closer to when he tripped while trying to mount Furiosa’s war rig and heard Immortan Joe describe him as “mediocre.” But hey, I pick, I whiff, I pick again!
“Fury Road” references aside, Week 4’s results almost inevitably led to whiffs, but it was an ideal week for streaming. Sam Bradford, Kirk Cousins, Josh McCown, Nick Foles, and Blake Bortles were all in the top seven among fantasy quarterbacks, while Carson Palmer and Aaron Rodgers failed to put up QB1 point totals. That’s a bummer, since I picked Foles and Bortles Week 3. If that sort of trend keeps up, I’ll write this column next week regretting passing on Joe Flacco.
But hopefully not! This week sees the return of a couple other names familiar to this column, and the addition of a new and rather apathetic figure. Before we get to those picks, let’s see what I got right (and wrong) last week.
Last week’s picks
Andy Dalton (321 passing yards, 1 touchdown)
Andy Dalton attempted just 22 aimed passes in a rout over the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite that low volume, Dalton managed 321 passing yards, an impressive 13.4 yards per attempt.
