Consensus Rankings Analysis – Week 3

topperfqbbradyQuarterbacks

You saw a much better Tom Brady in Week 2 than you did in Week 2. However, that was real life Tom Brady. Fantasy football Tom Brady put up a pretty wretched line, which isn’t a surprise considering his pass attempts went from 56 to 21 in one game. Why? Because the defense and running game did their jobs, and as a result, he simply needed to hand off and manage the game on what was often a short field. This week, the Patriots play against the Raiders in their home opener, and Vegas has the point spread around 15. That means that in all likelihood, this could be another week where Brady game manages by the second half. I see very little upside for Brady here, and profile him as a high-end QB2 on the week. Though they’re ranked lower in our consensus rankings, I’d take my chances with a Newton, Cutler or Rivers.

For those of you hunting for upside, this obviously warrants monitoring, but Geno Smith is a very intriguing play. He plays a Chicago defense without Charles Tillman, and though Kyle Fuller played very well last week, that’s still a very beatable defense. The main thing to watch here is Eric Decker’s health. If it’s looking like he’ll suit up, gamble with Geno if you need to. If he sits, Geno is a low-end QB2 that I wouldn’t dare start in any sort of 1 QB league. Geno clocks in at No. 17 overall, a spot I’m on board with.
