Colts: Arthur Jones returns

PFF-headlinesArthur Jones was a Ravens’ fifth round pick in 2010, and ended 2013 with the fourth-best Run Stop % among his 3-4 defensive end peers. The Colts got run over by the Patriots in the playoffs (234 yards and six TDs) so Jones’ production in that area of weakness helped justify his five year, $33 million dollar contract last offseason. He will return this week after playing only three games due to a high ankle sprain and subsequent aggravation of it.

Jones’ current stats  – one stop and as many tackles as missed tackles (4) – don’t tell the whole story. He missed a trio of tackles on Montee Ball in his Colts debut, but two of those were behind the line of scrimmage and the other was very close; he had to beat at least one lineman to be in that position.

Jones returned in Week 8  in Pittsburgh, didn’t start and didn’t record a tackle, yet still earned a +1.1 grade in this area by winning his battles at the line of scrimmage (07:49 in 1st Q 12:31 and 10:33 in 4th Q are good examples). He also still owns the only positive run defense grade among Colts’ defensive linemen and  should help in this area for the team.
