7 impact games for CFB DFS
“A rising tide lifts all boats.”
Or at least that’s the approach I take when building college football DFS rosters.
For me, it starts with listening to the oddsmakers and their expectations for game totals, which fluctuate as the market considers all available information about a matchup. The idea is that selecting players from higher scoring teams will create more opportunities for the players on those teams.
In this column I will examine the college football DFS implications of the games with the highest totals. In order to be included here, a game needed to appear in both DraftKings and FanDuel contests for the upcoming weekend. Let’s get to it.
TCU @ Texas Tech
Projected total of 80.5 points
TCU: Fresh off a 56-point outburst and sporting a No. 3 ranking, TCU travels to Lubbock with an expected team total of 43 points. Across the board I find their players to be expensive on a dollars-per-projected-point basis. For QB Trevone Boykin, he projects as my second-highest scoring passer of the week, but is the most expensive quarterback at both DraftKings and FanDuel.
Of Boykin’s targets, Josh Doctson projects as both the top option and is also the best on a dollars-per-projected-point basis. Although RB Aaron Green projects as my No. 19 rusher, he carries a top-10 price tag, which will limit the overall roster you can build around him.
Texas Tech: Expected to score more than 36 points in this game as the underdog, I project QB Patrick Mahomes to deliver a similar result as Boykin, but at a discounted price. The two leading pass catchers for Tech are Jakeem Grant and Devin Lauderdale, who have accounted for a similar percentage of receiving yards this year.
That said, Lauderdale has found the end zone more often, whereas Grant is likely to catch more passes. With Lauderdale coming at a significant discount off last week’s disappointment, I would be more inclined to pair him with Mahomes. Although DeAndre Washington is clearly Tech’s lead back, he has only accounted for 18% of their total offense and is outside my top 50 rushers for the week.
