6 Impact games for CFB DFS
Two games with totals over 80 points?! Are you kidding me?!
When it comes to making DFS lineups, my approach always starts with listening to the oddsmakers. Their expectations for game totals, which fluctuate as the market considers all available information about a matchup, provide the quickest insight into the games to target. The idea is that selecting players from higher scoring teams will create more opportunities for the players on those teams.
In the second edition of this column I will examine the college football DFS implications of the games with the highest totals. In order to be included here, a game needed to appear in both DraftKings and FanDuel contests for the upcoming weekend. Let’s get to it.
Baylor vs Texas Tech (in Arlington)
Projected total of 88 points
Baylor: Despite throwing for 332 yards per game and 15 touchdowns so far this season, I’m still not sure we’ve seen “full throttle” Seth Russell as the Bears have won every game by at least 35 points. He’s the most expensive passer on both sites, but carries my No. 3 projection for the week. The game total of 88 points might break a record, and Russell should play a huge role in that, but just know that most of his upside is already priced in.
At running back, Shock Linwood is the team’s leading back, and could be an less-utilized way to get a piece of the Baylor offense, but I won’t be using him much. He’s a likely bet to find the end zone and challenge for 100 yards, but Baylor rarely uses their backs in the passing game, which somewhat limits his overall upside. For such a premium salary, I’d rather spend my money elsewhere, which you can read about below.
Same as last week, when he delivered a 6-100-3 performance, Corey Coleman is my top rated receiver for the early slate. Not only is he in a lethal offense, but he’s also one of the most athletic receivers in the country. He’s a real threat to go for 200 yards and two touchdowns. Teammate Jay Lee continues to be Baylor’s second best receiving option, but the market isn’t adjusting to that yet. He’s one of my favorite value receivers of the week.
