Marcus Mariota injures knee in Week 6

Many players returned from injuries in spectacular fashion in Week 6. Steve Smith was doubtful he could play on Friday, and then grabbed seven receptions for 137 yards and a touchdown. Alshon Jeffery missed four games with hamstring and calf strains, didn’t practice fully last week, and then caught eight balls for 147 yards and a touchdown. It shows us the impressive toughness of these guys, and the quality of their medical and training staffs. It also shows how difficult it can be to forecast these players performances on the limited—and a lot of times misleading— information we are given. But, we’ll keep trying our best!

Perhaps the biggest news stories of Week 6 were Marcus Mariota suffering a knee injury and Sammy Watkins injuring his other lower leg. I’ll cover these stories and all the other fantasy-relevant injury news you need to know heading into Week 7. As with every week, this article will be updated throughout the week as more is known regarding these injuries.

Quarterbacks

Ben Roethlisberger suffered a Grade 2 MCL sprain and a bone bruise in Week 3. His expected timetable for return has been 4-6 weeks.

In Week 4, he was seen standing on the sidelines without the use of crutches. He practiced limitedly last week, including 7-on-7 drills. Overall, he has been ahead of the initial timetable for return. His earliest return would be this week, but that’s far from a guarantee. His practice participation on Wednesday will give us a big clue to his availability for this week’s game. His return would be great news for his owners and Antonio Brown’s alike.
