Justin Blackmon Primed for a FantasyThrowdown Grand Finale

Jacksonville Jaguars playmaking wide receiver Cecil Shorts III is such a talent and the Jags seemed to hit pay dirt with both Shorts and 2012 1st round selection Justin Blackmon. Unfortunately after Shorts sustained the 2nd concussion of his young career we hope that such a talent doesn’t pass by the wayside as a player who becomes more susceptible to be concussed with each and every hit to the head taken in the future. However the show does go on and as they one man’s misfortune is another man’s gain. The person set to gain the most from Cecil Shorts misfortune is teammate Justin Blackmon. The rookie Blackmon over the past four weeks has taken 94% of the offensive snaps. It took awhile for the rookie Blackmon to get going this season but once he did he came on like a freight train breaking out in week 11 for 236 yards receiving along with a touchdown. In fact since week 11 Justin Blackmon is 7th overall in targets and the targets have yet to fall off, Blackmon has maintained a top 6 targeted receiver over the past three weeks with 35 targets.

One negative going against Blackmon is that over the past three weeks he has only managed to catch 54% of the passes thrown his direction. On the season Blackmon has a 50% catch percentage but during the first ten weeks of the season the percentage was as low as 46%. During weeks 11 through week 13 Blackmon increased the number of catches per targets by 6% lining out at 52% and then again during weeks 14 through 16 Blackmon again escalated his catch percentage to 54%. Now it would be a stretch for us to say that Blackmon will follow his last six game trend and increase his catch percent by 2% this week but we do like the Jag’s wide receiver to reel in somewhere around 50% of the passes thrown his way this week against the Tennessee Titans and with 35 targets going Blackmon’s way over the past three weeks we feel like the rookie wideout is a solid option this week.
