Jets: Aboushi improves line

PFF-headlinesWhen Jets starting left guard Brian Winters went down with a season ending injury in Week 6 the bar wasn't set very high for his replacement. Through six games Winters had an ugly -11.0 pass block grade and a -4.4 run blocking grade placing him 74th out of 75 qualifying guards in overall grading.

Second-year player, Oday Aboushi earned his first NFL start taking over for Winters in Week 7, and has improved the Jets offensive line play, especially when it comes to run blocking. His +5.1 run blocking grade ranks 11th among guards over the last seven weeks.

While Aboushi has shown improvements over Winters in pass protection, his -6.7 pass blocking grade shows an area for improvement. He’s allowed 12 total pressures, but only two sacks. With just four games left Aboushi has an opportunity to make a strong case to be the starting left guard next season.
