Jaguars: Loss of Robinson opens door for Lee

PFF-headlinesAfter a season-ending injury to Allen Robinson, the Jacksonville Jaguars have a major hole to fill, and will need a young receiver to step up.

Robinson has played well this year, leading the team in targets, receptions and yards. His overall grade of -0.4 is top among  Jaguars WRs. Robinson has caught 48 of 49 catchable targets, for a Drop Rate of just 2.04%, fifth-best among NFL receivers with at least 45 targets, and tops for all rookies with that volume of targets.

Despite the loss, this injury presents an opportunity for other Jaguar WRs. Allen Hurns and Cecil Shorts will likely see an uptick in targets, as will tight end Marcedes Lewis who is expected to return from injury after the bye. The most likely beneficiary however, may be fellow 2014 second-round pick Marqise Lee.

Lee has caught all 13 catchable passes thrown his way this year, but has seen limited playing time. Two negatively-graded starts early in the year and a series of injuries have limited Lee to just 86 snaps since Week 2.  Lee will now have a chance to earn more snaps, and to establish himself as a reliable starter heading into 2015.
