Jaguars: Investment in Marks is paying off

PFF-headlinesThree weeks into free agency in 2013, the Jacksonville Jaguars added defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks on a one year “prove it” deal, and prove it he did. With a -34.0 grade in run defense and 7.7 as a pass rusher during his four years as a Titan, Marks had done little to recommend himself to other teams. His play in Jacksonville earned him a lucrative four-year contract extension prior to the end of his first season.

Marks' -4.4 overall grade in 2013 may not standout, but his +10.5 grade as a pass rusher, ninth-best among all defensive tackles, certainly did; Marks had found his role as a pass rushing three-technique. Four sacks and 39 total pressures gave Marks a 5.9 Pass Rushing Productivity, 18th out of 33 tackles, solid but not great. However he also played on 83.1% of the team's defensive snaps, playing too often in run defense and wearing him down.

In 2014, with the security of a four-year contract, and being kept fresh by featuring on just 66.2% of defensive snaps, Marks has taken yet another step forward. Through eight games Marks has recorded four sacks and 23 total pressures for an improved 8.1 PRP grade, 6th out of 29 qualifying defensive tackles, his +10.5 overall grade is tenth-best among tackles. Marks is repaying the Jaguars faith with the best football of his career.
