When the Packers' season ended in January, Davon House stated that he felt ready to start in the NFL. Today he has chosen to leave Green Bay in order to make that a reality as he signs with the Jacksonville Jaguars. A fourth-round pick out of New Mexico State in 2011, House will reunite with his former college head coach as he seeks to build upon the 944 snaps he played for Green Bay in the last two seasons.
Targeted 47 times this season, House allowed fewer than 50% of those targets to be completed, breaking up eight passes while surrendering three touchdowns and only conceding two passes of more than 20 yards. A corner with an ability to make a play on the ball House has 22 pass defenses in his limited snaps over the last three seasons, the third most of any Green Bay corners in that time.
House’s three highest-graded performances in coverage over the last two seasons have all come against AFC opponents. His first appearance this season against the Jets earned him a +1.5 coverage grade (allowing one catch for six yards) while he earned +1.8 and +3.1 coverage grades in back-to-back weeks against the Ravens and Browns in 2013.
In Jacksonville he joins a defensive backfield built on talent and potential rather than anything proven at this point and will have every chance to win a starting job. Demetrius McCray had a solid 2014 season, but House will have to believe that he can take a starting spot away from Dwayne Gratz who failed to build on a couple of solid displays as a rookie in 2013, coming up with a consistently subpar 2014 season.
