Every Tuesday I’ll be giving you the lowdown on which individual defensive players (IDP) to target for the upcoming week’s waiver wire, so without further ado here is this week’s under the radar prospects.
Defensive Lineman
Olivier Vernon, Miami Dolphins 2 % of FAAB
A sack in each of his last three games, and five further tackles for a loss to boot, has made Vernon a consistent play over the past few weeks. The impending full-time return to the lineup by Cameron Wake as well will only serve to give Vernon better matchups on gameday boosting his value a little higher. He makes for a solid bye week alternative, but only in the deepest of leagues would an owner want to be resorting to starting Vernon.
Jason Babin, Jacksonville Jaguars 2% of FAAB
According to PFF game charters, only four players so far this season have registered 9 or more quarterback hits; J.J. Watt, Robert Quinn, Lamarr Houston and… Jason Babin. On that basis, Babin appeals as a great buy-low and shoot for the stars type of play, as we’ve seen DE1 production from the veteran pass-rusher before. With only two sacks so far on the year, Babin has been a poor fantasy performer to date, but his behind the numbers stats suggest he can posted DE2/3 performances going forwards, so teams looking for a cheap backup DL should consider Babin.
