Every Tuesday I’ll be giving you the lowdown on which individual defensive players (IDP) to target for the upcoming week’s waiver wire, so without further ado here is this week’s under the radar prospects.
Defensive Lineman
Jason Hatcher, Dallas Cowboys 1 – 2% of FAAB
We’ll start with a recommended pickup in DT-required formats and nominate Hatcher as a cheap target on this week’s waiver wire. Having gotten off to an exceptional start to the season with three sacks and five tackles for loss, it is highly unlikely Hatcher will be able to continue scoring at his current rate, but he is showing he can win one-on-ones and with DeMarcus Ware and George Selvie bookending the Cowboys defensive line, he’ll continue to see favorable matchups on a weekly basis. Add in that the NFC East quarterback trio of Eli Manning, Robert Griffin III and Michael Vick are giving up an average of 2.75 sacks per game there will be some decent scores still to come in future weeks.
Jason Babin, Jacksonville Jaguars 2 – 3% of FAAB
How far Babin has fallen since his 18 sack season in 2011 for the Eagles? Despite no longer being considered an automatic double-digit sack provider, Babin has shown he can put up some fantasy points this year. His ten total tackles through four games is a little on the low side to be an every week fantasy starter, but his two sacks on the year have been supported by seven quarterback hits (more than any other 4-3 defensive end), six quarterback hurries, and three tackles for loss, showing he still retains the ability to make plays in the backfield. He won’t be an every week starter for you, but Babin will serve as a solid bye-week replacement and injury fill-in.
