Every Tuesday I’ll be giving you the lowdown on which individual defensive players (IDP) to target for the upcoming week’s waiver wire, so without further ado here is this week’s under the radar prospects.
Defensive Lineman
Shea McClellin, Chicago Bears 1 – 2% of FAAB
Coming off a big Monday night game in which he recorded three sacks, including one that has reportedly fractured Aaron Rodgers collarbone, McClellin will be a popular pickup for owners needing defensive line depth. Don’t dismiss him as a one-game wonder, as since Week 5 he has been a starter for the Bears defense and only missed 48-of-258 snaps. In that time he has charted five tackles for loss highlighting his development as a disruptive force in the backfield. McClellin needs to show more consistent pass rush (3.5 sacks, five hits and ten hurries on the season) to become a viable every-week DL2, but he should be owned in all formats.
Ziggy Ansah, Detroit Lions 2 – 3% of FAAB
A strategy I like to use in my leagues, especially for my teams that look playoff bound, is to scour the waiver wire for players dropped because of injury or bye weeks. Ansah was a victim of a “minor” ankle injury in Week 8, and the Lions were on a bye in Week 9, so there is a chance that this talent pass rusher is available in your league. If so, grab him and stash him. Chances are he is at least equally as good as your current DL3 or DL4.
