In this weekly column I’ll highlight some top IDP options that aren’t always “must-start” players. I’ll also hit on some of the players most likely to disappoint this week.
Here’s complete season and weekly projections that can be customized to your league’s scoring for all those tough start/sit calls. For specific questions you can always ask me via twitter @NateNFL.
Defensive Line
Start
Jared Allen DL2 vs NYJ
Allen has gotten off to a very slow start in 2014 although he was more active in week 2. The good news is he's played 121 out of a possible 130 snaps so he's still getting the opportunities to make plays. He just hasn't made many yet. This week's matchup with the Jets is a good one for both he and Lamarr Houston, who's gotten off to an even slower start in IDP fantasy football. Start Allen this week unless you're just stacked at the position.
Olivier Vernon DL2 vs KC
Vernon is growing into a really nice defensive end. Last week he graded out +2.7 in the loss to the Bills. He excels against the run but can also get to the passer as well. Through two games he's posted 6 solos, 3 assists and 1 sack. The Kansas City offensive line is going to have all kinds of issues with Miami's front. Cameron Wake is a top 5 play and Vernon is inside the top 20.
