IDP Consensus Rankings Analysis: Week 13

Every week, our own Jeff Ratcliffe, Ross Miles, Mike Woellert, and Eric Yeomans give you their rankings for each of the three IDP positions.  In this column, I take a look at their ranks and discuss my thoughts on where they agree and disagree.

Defensive Linemen

Yet again, J.J. Watt claims the top spot in our defensive linemen rankings.  Following Watt’s uncontested lead is Jason Pierre Paul, Jared Allen, Charles Johnson and Terrell Suggs.

Regardless of his (relatively) modest numbers so far this season, Justin Smith comes in as our No. 12 ranked defensive lineman this week.  Smith was held without a sack for the first 10 weeks but has notched three in the past two weeks.  It’s worth noting, however, that his two sacks last week came on just three pressures, not to mention he graded out negatively as a pass rusher for the game.  I think 12 is a bit high for Smith this week, though I still like him as lower end DE2.

Cliff Avril received a peculiar set of ranks from our staff this week, ranging from No. 12 to not even being ranked.  Avril has recorded three sacks on five QB pressures over the past three weeks as a situational player.  Not only has Avril’s playing time increased each of the past three weeks, but he faces a Colts’ offense that concedes the third most points to opposing defensive ends this week.
