Houston pacing the league in opportunity

Last week I dove into just how dominant the Broncos defense was by looking at how they affected their opponents’ opportunity index on a weekly basis. This got me thinking about the offensive side of the ball and what teams were providing the most opportunity for their players to score fantasy points. And thus Team OI was born.

This week I’m going change it up a bit and will forgo analyzing the individual position tables. Instead, I’ll sift through some team offense OI rankings for a little different perspective. Don’t worry, I’ll still include some of the old tables at the end so you can get your OI fix.

After the jump, you’ll find a table of each team’s OI for its overall offense, rush offense, and pass offense as well as some of my observations. All numbers are through Week 9.

Opportunity Index (OI) is a metric that measures the quality of a player’s opportunity (QB completions plus rushes, RB/WR/TE pass targets plus rushes) versus the quantity of opportunity. Each opportunity is weighted by likelihood to score fantasy points and then adjusted to the position average to get one, clean number where 0 percent is league average and anything greater is above league average and vice versa.
