Optimal Lineup for Saturday, Nov. 21st: Noon ET

QB – Kyle Postma (Houston): $6,500

This pick is recommended (of course) only if starting QB Greg Ward, Jr., in fact misses Houston’s game this weekend. Postma is a speculative play, but he is taking over an offense that has turned a 2014 part-time receiver into one of this year’s most productive quarterbacks in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Despite being a small player and being in only his first year of Head Coach Tom Herman’s offense, Ward is a Heisman candidate who is the slate’s most productive quarterback. The problem is that in the team’s last game against Memphis, Ward suffered an ankle injury and is questionable to play this weekend on the road at Connecticut.

Because Herman, who was the offensive coordinator last year for Ohio State, has had success in the past with backup quarterbacks, optimism exists that Postma could be productive within the offense if called upon to start. Additionally, it speaks well for Postma that he was able to get 24.3 fantasy points in less than a full game of duty in relief for Ward against a top-25 Memphis team, passing for 236 yards and a touchdown and rushing for 49 yards and another touchdown. With no over/under set for this game (as of the time of writing), this game is harder to predict, but Houston is a high-scoring team with 43.5 points per game, and even though UConn allows only 20.2 points per game it has benefitted from a soft schedule and been exposed for 37 points within the last few games by Cincinnati, another high-scoring unit. In that game, Cincinnati QB Gunner Kiel passed for 327 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 10 yards and another touchdown.

Against UConn in Week 12, Postma has a strong chance — if he’s the starter — of passing for 300 yards, rushing for 50 yards, and scoring three touchdowns.
