Training camp fantasy players to monitor: AFC South

Just as one team suffered a steep decline last year, the AFC South’s fantasy production was saved by a breakout season from another team. In 2016, many expect the former (the Colts) to have a major bounceback season, and not many expect the latter (the Jaguars) to suffer any major falloff in production. Both the Texans and Titans have invested heavily in the offense — at quarterback, the skill positions and along the offensive line.

The AFC South should be an excellent source of fantasy points in 2016, but unlike the other divisions we’ve previewed so far, things seem to be more settled. There are a few position battles we’re waiting on in camp, and a few young players we want to see progress, but in today’s piece, we’ll be focusing on players who have unknown target and touch shares heading into the season.

This is the fifth of eight NFL divisions in which we are pinpoint four to five players per division to track during training camp and the preseason (catch up on the divisions so far here). From now until the start of the season, the only real information we’ll need to gather is about a player’s role and chemistry within his offense. Let’s jump in.

Phillip Dorsett, WR, Indianapolis Colts

A big chunk of the fantasy community is banking on a breakout from former third-rounder Donte Moncrief in 2016, but there’s minimal buzz surrounding second-year (and 2015 first-round pick) Phillip Dorsett. The situation is quite odd. Even though neither player has truly broken out, and neither player has emerged as the definitive No. 2 option with Andrew Luck, the community has deferred to the later draft pick. Dorsett flashed big-time potential early on in his rookie season before Luck got injured, and his ability to rip off chunk-yardage plays was seen through his entire collegiate career. Injuries limited Dorsett to just 148 total routes run, but that should change in 2016.
