Top fantasy performers in opportunity


Every now and again I’ll get the questions as to why I felt the need to create a new metric when we already could get most of the picture painted for us through raw stats like pass attempts, carries, and targets themselves. My answer is always Jarvis Landry. He — and other wide receivers like him — are always the exception to the rule when looking at targets.

You’ll notice when you scroll down that Landry didn’t crack the top 20 in opportunity despite having the ninth-most targets this season. In fact, he doesn’t even crack the top-25 as his 37.4 percent OI ranks 27th among wide receivers this year. That is a major improvement from last year, however, when he finished well outside the top 50 among the position. The reason? Lack of quality touches. Given his huge jump in ranks this season I wanted to take a quick look as to why it’s happening.
