Steve Johnson and Fred Jackson each handled an offense-leading 61 snaps in Week 8. David Nelson was next up at wide receiver, playing 57 snaps. Naaman Roosevelt (32 snaps), CJ Spiller (25), and Brad Smith (20) were the other wide receivers. Johnny White picked up one snap at tailback. Scott Chandler was in 42 snaps, which matches a season-high. He scored on both of his targets, which came on just 12 pass routes. Lee Smith was the No. 2 TE with just six snaps.
Fred Davis was in on 52 of a possible 54 snaps and paced the offense in that category this season. With Santana Moss out, Jabar Gaffney (45 snaps) and Terrence Austin (38) led the wideouts. Four other wide receivers saw action, including Niles Paul (29 snaps), Anthony Armstrong (19), rookie Leonard Hankerson (10), and Donte’ Stallworth (seven). Roy Helu handled 34 snaps to Ryan Torain’s 20, but this was a product of a very pass-heavy day for Washington. Torain ran the ball eight times, but ran only 11 pass routes. Helu ran 31 pass routes and had zero carries.
Lions 45, Broncos 10
Calvin Johnson was in on 51 snaps, which led the wide receivers, but Nate Burleson and Titus Young were just behind, handling 49 and 45 snaps, respectively. Maurice Stovall was in on 15 plays. Brandon Pettigrew racked up 50 snaps, while Tony Scheffler was in on 17 plays against his old squad. Will Heller handled 20 snaps. Maurice Morris played 41 snaps to lead the tailbacks. Keiland Williams chipped in with 18.
Who leads the Broncos skill position players in snaps this season? Daniel Fells with 393 after racking up 68 in Week 8. Julius Thomas was back in action, playing two snaps to Virgil Green’s one. Eric Decker led the wideouts with 66 snaps and was just ahead of Eddie Royal’s 59. Demaryius Thomas handled 47, while Matt Willis was in on 18. With Willis McGahee out, Knowshon Moreno handled 44 snaps. Lance Ball was in on 30 plays.
Eagles 34, Cowboys 7
Jeremy Maclin’s 66 snaps led the offense. He was one snap ahead of Brent Celek, who has 433 snaps on the year to lead the offensive skill position players. Maclin trails by only four. Clay Harbor chipped in with a season-high 34 snaps. DeSean Jackson was in on 57 plays, while Jason Avant handled 47. Riley Cooper (nine snaps) played over Steve Smith (zero). LeSean McCoy racked up 62 snaps and has reached the 60 mark in three of the past four games. Ronnie Brown played three snaps.
Jason Witten (49 snaps) did not miss a play for the third week in a row. Martellus Bennett was in on nine plays – by far a season low. Miles Austin led the wideouts with 48 snaps. Dez Bryant was in on 43 plays and Laurent Robinson handled 40. Kevin Ogletree saw two snaps. DeMarco Murray’s 36 snaps led the tailbacks. Phillip Tanner was in on 12 plays.
Giants 20, Dolphins 17
Jake Ballard played 68 snaps in this one and trails only Hakeem Nicks among Giants offensive skill position players on the season. Nicks suffered an injury, but still managed 63 snaps. Mario Manningham was in on 66 plays, while Victor Cruz handled 41. Devin Thomas (three), Michael Clayton (two), and Jerrel Jernigan (one) also chipped in at wideout. Bear Pascoe played 22 snaps, while Travis Beckum handled four. Ahmad Bradshaw played 45 snaps to Brandon Jacobs’ 14. DJ Ware was in on 10 plays.
It was a 53-snap affair for Anthony Fasano, who paced the offense in snaps this season. Brandon Marshall was in on 49 plays, which led the wide receivers. Brian Hartline (29 snaps) was in on two more plays than Davone Bess. Marlon Moore saw just one snap. Reserve TE Jeron Mastrud was in on 13 plays and H-Back Charles Clay handled 23. Reggie Bush led the backs in snaps thanks to an inactive Daniel Thomas. Bush was in on 37 plays, well ahead of Lex Hilliard’s 19 and Steve Slaton’s 14.
Vikings 24, Panthers 21
Devin Aromashodu led the Vikings in targets in Week 7 and paced the offense in snaps this week. With Bernard Berrian out of the picture, Aromashodu handled 61 snaps this week after a 60-snap Week 7. Michael Jenkins was in on 49 plays, while Percy Harvin racked up 30. Greg Camarillo (seven snaps) and Stephen Burton (two) saw some action, as well. QB/WR Joe Webb was on the field for two plays. Visanthe Shiancoe was on the field for 42 plays, beating out Jim Kleinsasser’s 29 and Kyle Rudolph’s 26. Adrian Peterson managed 44 snaps and Toby Gerhart was in on 14 plays.
Steve Smith’s 61 snaps led the team’s offensive skill position players in Week 8. Legedu Naanee handled 58 plays and Brandon LaFell was in on 40. Seyi Ajirotutu’s one snap gives him five on the year. Greg Olsen worked 55 snaps, while Jeremy Shockey was in on 30. Jonathan Stewart’s 42 snaps led the backers, with DeAngelo Williams well behind at 23. Stewart holds a 295-to-208 edge on Williams this season.
Rams 31, Saints 21
Steven Jackson’s 63 snap effort was enough to lead the offense. Cadillac Williams was in on just nine plays. Brandon Lloyd led the wideouts for the second week in a row, handling 61 snaps. Brandon Gibson was in on 52 snaps as Danario Alexander’s replacement. Greg Salas handled 33 snaps, compared to only six for Austin Pettis and two for Dominique Curry. Mike Hoomanawanui paced the tight ends with 56 snaps. Lance Kendricks ran 18 pass routes on 37 snaps, while Billy Bajema was in on 24 plays.
Marques Colston played 52 snaps in Week 8 to lead the Saints offense. Lance Moore was next up at 41, but he was just ahead of Robert Meachem’s 40 and Devery Henderson’s 38. Jimmy Graham was in on 48 plays, 44 of which were passes. Playing from behind all day long, the Saints went heavy on the pass, which meant a lot of Darren Sproles. He played 44 snaps, compared to just 25 for Pierre Thomas and six for Chris Ivory. Mark Ingram was out. John Gilmore handled 21 snaps as the No. 2 TE.
Ravens 30, Cardinals 27
Anquan Boldin paced the Ravens’ offense with 77 snaps in a day that saw Baltimore rack up 80 offensive plays. Torrey Smith was in on 68 snaps with Lee Evans still out of action. LaQuan Williams saw just six snaps, giving up playing time to Dennis Pitta, who played a season-high 58 snaps. He is essentially working as the No. 3 WR, but is still No. 2 on the tight end depth chart behind Ed Dickson, who handled 76 snaps this week. Ray Rice was in on 69 snaps, while Ricky Williams added 11.
Larry Fitzgerald was in on every snap for the third week in a row. He handled 57 snaps, compared to Andre Robert’s 54. Early Doucet paced the wideouts with six targets, but played only 19 snaps. Chansi Stuckey (three snaps) played over DeMarco Sampson. Despite Todd Heap sitting out, the Cardinals still went TE-heavy. Jeff King was in on 42 snaps, while Rob Housler handled 26 and Jim Dray racked up 23. Beanie Wells’ 32 snaps led the backers. Chester Taylor (13 snaps), LaRod Stephens-Howling (nine), and Alfonso Smith (two) also chipped in.
Steelers 25, Patriots 17
Heath Miller and Mike Wallace each played 76 snaps, which led the Steelers’ offense. Miller holds a 54-snap edge on Wallace this season for the team lead among skill position players. Emmanuel Sanders filled in for Hines Ward with 65 snaps. Antonio Brown saw a season-high 51 snaps and was targeted 15 times. His 61 snaps this season leads the team, including Wallace (59). Jerricho Cotchery was in on 12 plays. Weslye Saunders (10 snaps) and Arnaz Battle (one) saw limited action. Rashard Mendenhall was involved in 42 plays, while Isaac Redman picked up 22 snaps. Mewelde Moore racked up 11 of his own.
Rob Gronkowski’s 50 snaps paced the offense. He holds a 26 snap edge on Wes Welker for the team lead on offense this season. Speaking of Welker, he was in on 43 plays. Deion Branch was just behind at 41. Chad Ochocinco handled 11 snaps and Taylor Price was in on five plays. Aaron Hernandez’s 42 snaps trailed only Welker and Gronkowski. Kevin Faulk made his 2011 debut with a running back-leading 34 snaps, including 24 pass routes. BenJarvus Green-Ellis was in on only 12 plays. Danny Woodhead saw just two snaps and Stevan Ridley did not play.
Titans 27, Colts 10
Nate Washington and Damian Williams each ran 31 pass routes on 54 snaps in the team’s Week 8 win. Lavelle Hawkins was next up among the wideouts with 30. Marc Mariani (eight snaps) and Donnie Avery (four) chipped in a few a snaps of their own. Jared Cook saw only two targets, but was in on 40 snaps and ran 29 pass routes. He trails only Washington and Chris Johnson in snaps among offensive skill position players this season. Daniel Graham was in on 37 snaps, but blocked on 28 of them. Javon Ringer played 33 snaps, which was just ahead of Johnson’s 30. Jamie Harper was in on two plays.
Reggie Wayne played all 77 snaps in Week 8, which was just ahead of Pierre Garcon’s 76. Austin Collie was the only other wideout on the team to see action, handling 70 snaps. Dallas Clark was in on 73 plays, while Brody Eldridge (seven) and Jacob Tamme (five) added a few of their own. Delone Carter’s 46 snaps were enough to pace the running backs. Donald Brown was in on 31 plays. Joe Addai was active, but not healthy enough to play.
49ers 20, Browns 10
Vernon Davis enjoyed an offense-leading 56 Week 8 snaps. He leads the offensive unit on the season, as well, with 391. Delanie Walker added 28 snaps and Justin Peelle was in on nine. Michael Crabtree paced the wideouts with 38 snaps, but Braylon Edwards was just behind at 34. Ted Ginn added 28 and Kyle Williams handled seven. Frank Gore dominated the backfield work with 52 snaps. Kendall Hunter was in on just 10 plays.
Peyton Hillis was out and Montario Hardesty suffered an injury after just four snaps. This allowed Chris Ogbonnaya to rack up 55 snaps. Fullback Owen Marecic worked as the backup tailback, but carried the ball only once on 16 snaps. Greg Little led the wideouts for the seventh time this season with 54 snaps. Josh Cribbs handled 45 in place of injured Mohamed Massaquoi. Jordan Norwood accrued 39 snaps from the slot. Carlton Mitchell was in on seven snaps, his first of the year. Ben Watson was a go for this one and racked up 50 snaps. Evan Moore chipped in with 19 and Alex Smith was in on 16.
Chiefs 23, Chargers 20
Although rookie Jonathan Baldwin had his first big NFL game during Monday Night Football, he was only third among Chiefs’ wideouts in snaps. Dwayne Bowe was in on 58 snaps and Steve Breaston added 49. Baldwin played 25, 18 of which were pass routes. Keary Colbert (12 snaps) and Terrance Copper (three) also saw action. Jake O’Connell led the tight ends in snaps for the second week in a row, this time edging Leonard Pope 47 to 40. Jackie Battle led the backs with 36 snaps. Dexter McCluster was in on 18 plays and Thomas Jones handled 14. Le’Ron McClain was in on 31 snaps.
Vincent Jackson and Antonio Gates each handled an offense-leading 65 snaps in Week 8. Randy McMichael was in on 49 snaps and Kory Sperry racked up nine. Malcom Floyd was in on 49 plays, while Patrick Crayton managed 22. Vincent Brown (seven snaps) and Richard Goodman (two) picked up the scraps. Ryan Mathews missed some time with an injury, but managed 50 snaps beforehand. Curtis Brinkley was his replacement with Mike Tolbert out of action. He filled in with 20 snaps.
Bengals 34, Seahawks 12
AJ Green racked up an offense-leading 56 snaps in Week 8 and is up to 411 on the year, which also leads the offense. Jerome Simpson was just behind at 49 snaps this week. Andre Caldwell played only 20 – his lowest total since Week 1. Andrew Hawkins (four) and Brandon Tate (one) saw limited action. With Jermaine Gresham out, Colin Cochart returned to the lineup with 35 snaps. He played ahead of Donald Lee, who was in on 32 plays. With Cedric Benson out, Bernard Scott managed 35 snaps. Brian Leonard ran a pass route on 14 of his 23 snaps and Cedric Peerman filled in with five snaps of his own.
With Mike Williams inactive, Ben Obomanu stepped into a 59 snap afternoon, which paced the offense. Sidney Rice was next among wideouts, racking up 55 snaps. Slotman Doug Baldwin was in on 44 plays. Golden Tate played 24 and Kris Durham was in on 10. Zach Miller returned to action with 43 snaps. Anthony McCoy (28 snaps) saw a slightly larger workload than Cam Morrah (25). Marshawn Lynch was also back in action and handled 39 snaps. Justin Forsett (16 snaps, all of which were pass plays) played more than Leon Washington (10 snaps).
Texans 24, Jaguars 14
Owen Daniels led the Texans offense with 66 snaps played and is atop the offense this season. Joel Dreessen was in on 39 plays and has been on the field for 36+ snaps in each of the team’s eight games this year. James Casey was in on a season-low 14 plays. Jacoby Jones led the wideouts with 58 snaps played. Kevin Walter was just behind with 57 of his own. Derrick Mason handled 20 snaps and Bryant Johnson was in on eight. Arian Foster’s 63 snaps led the backers. Ben Tate racked up only eight snaps.
Marcedes Lewis’ 54 snaps led the offense in Week 8. Zach Potter was on the field for nine snaps and Martin Rucker – filling in for injured Zach Miller – managed seven snaps. Mike Thomas’ 45 snaps paced the wide receivers, but Jason Hill was just behind at 42. Mike Sims-Walker fell back to earth with 26 snaps after handling 56 in his 2011 Jaguars debut in Week 7. Jarett Dillard racked up 24 snaps, playing over an inactive Cecil Shorts. Maurice Jones-Drew handled 50 snaps and Deji Karim was in on only eight plays.
