Should you sell Julio Jones, Randall Cobb, and Allen Hurns?

One of the biggest advantages of PFF’s advanced stats is the ability to use pass routes in concert with targets. It’s a much bigger weapon than employing targets alone. This week we’ll pay special attention to the intersection of these two stats and look at some high profile players you might want to buy and sell as trade deadlines approach in all formats.

DeAndre Hopkins leads the league with 122 targets, but he’s only seventh in targets per route, an illustration of the value in seeing extremely high route numbers. Hopkins is sitting on 420 routes and the next two receivers in the pecking order will be on the bye in Week 11 (Brandin Cooks, Odell Beckham). It’s perhaps a testament to Detroit’s worst-in-NFL-history combination of management and coaching that Golden Tate, a player who ranks No. 50 in fantasy points, has the next highest route number at 377.

Randall Cobb Exposed as a No. 1?

In Week 10 the top three route runners were Davante Adams, James Jones, and Randall Cobb with 65, 64, and 62 respectively. We’re starting to see a clearer picture emerge in Green Bay. After his fast, TD-fueled start, Jones has fallen completely off the map, drawing only two targets and recording zero yards. If you want an explanation for Aaron Rodgers’ struggles, you probably don’t need to go any further.
