As November trudges on, the temperatures are dropping around the country and teams are being forced to play a different brand of football – one that relies on the play in the trenches when the conditions are wet or windy. Knowing that sloppy games played on wet fields can hurt defenses because they are reacting to what the offenses do can help to pick the right defense for daily fantasy football purposes.
A common misconception is that playing in domes or on dry fields helps the offenses more than defenses. Because they aren’t playing in the elements, fantasy owners think that quarterbacks will be more accurate, receivers will run cleaner routes, and defenses would be better playing in hurricane-like conditions where the offense can’t complete a pass.
The truth is, offensive players know the play and offensive linemen know the snap counts, which allows them to prepare for a cut or get a better launch off the line. Defenders are constantly reacting and adjusting to what an offense does, and sloppy fields often times allow for receivers to find huge holes, and weak defensive lines to get pushed back nearly every play.
