The fantasy playoffs are more than five months away, and in terms of projecting exactly how these matchups will look in December, they might as well be five years away. Whatever reservations we have about confidently basing decisions off of early-season strength of schedule, they are magnified tenfold when attempting to project late-season matchups. That important caveat said, let’s do it anyway. (For more of quarterback strength-of-schedule week, check here.)
Here we will mainly focus on defenses at the extremes of our projections – the Seahawks and the Saints of the league – instead of taking on a Quixotian task of labeling some Week 15 matchup against the Steelers or Bills favorable or not. Frankly, it would be an exercise in dart-throwing, at best — and at worst, inactionable information peddling. Instead, let’s throw darts at the easiest targets to hit.
The Cupcakes
Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions (CHI, @NYG, @DAL): The last time Stafford faced the Bears in Detroit he threw for four touchdowns and more than 400 yards – of course, Calvin Johnson had 166 yards and one of those scores. But with the Bears light on the back end and likely to be stout up front, coupled with the Lions’ cloudy run game, Stafford will be chucking it again. The Giants game could turn into an up-tempo shootout and the Cowboys secondary looks typically porous. If Detroit can wrest the ball away from Dallas, it could turn into a back-and-forth affair.
