Fantasy Preview: Chiefs @ Chargers

KANSAS CITY, MO - OCTOBER 31: Running back Curtis Brinkley #44 of the San Diego Chargers leaps over teammate Nick Hardwick #61 for extra yardage against the Kansas City Chiefs during the fourth quarter on October 31, 2011 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. Thursday Night PreviewThe AFC West looks like a competitive division from a distance, but there is a distinct feeling that the Broncos are going to run away and hide sooner rather than later. If that is indeed how things are going to play out, then this is a must win game for the Chargers.

I'll keep the Chiefs analysis short and sweet, as it is difficult to even consider this team when it comes to the fantasy world. This quarterback situation is proving the age old saying that “if you have two quarterbacks, you don't have any”. Matt Cassel is the starting QB for this week, giving Dwayne Bowe owners at least a little bit of hope. Bowe has decent statistics this season, but most of those numbers have been racked up in garbage time. While there is no penalty for accumulating useless touchdowns, it is very dangerous to rely on them from a fantasy perspective.

Other than Bowe, who I view as a Top-25 receiver, the only other Chief that is worthwhile is Jamaal Charles. He carried the ball only five times last week against Oakland, but I'm not fully sold on that being such a bad thing. Kansas City worked the banged up Peyton Hillis into the rotation, but the blowout nature of the game — it wasn't as close as the final score — affected how that game was called. I expect Hillis to receive very limited work due to a short work week, thus resulting in a boost in Charles' value. Consider this: Charles has had under 10 carries in one other game this season, and he followed that up with a 39-touch, 288-yard performance.
