Fantasy Impact: Miami Dolphins select Dion Jordan

With the third pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins selected DE Dion Jordan (Oregon Ducks). At 6'7″ and 248 pounds, Jordan has the potential to emerge as one of the top pass rushers in this draft. His measurables are unquestionable (4.60 40-yard dash, 122″ broad jump, 4.35 20-yard shuttle), and the USC film shows a pass-rusher with a non-stop motor and exceptional game speed. His experience dropping into coverage will help immensely and he gets off the line with DeMarcus Ware-like rapidity. The lack of consistent productivity is certainly cause for concern (particularly given that he wasn't regularly facing NFL-caliber competition) as is his propensity for getting hurt, but there's no question that Jordan is one of the most intriguing talents in this draft. With Jordan bookending Cameron Wake on the Dolphins' front line, Miami's pass rush will be very formidable indeed.

Fantasy Impact

Initially, look for Jordan to play on the left side, complementing Cameron Wake. But within the next couple of years, Jordan will take over on the right side, with Olivier Vernon in the mix for snaps as well. The biggest impact here is on Vernon, who is no longer in line to take over a starting role. For Jordan, look for elite-level production starting in 2014 or 2015.
