The fantasy playoffs are coming in just over a month, so it’s time to trim the fat. Get rid of those low-ceiling options cluttering your bench and stash high-upside players. And don’t forget that the waiver wire isn’t just about this week. If you want to win your league championship, it’s about the next seven week.

Remember, we cast a wide net every week in our waiver wire advice. Below you’ll see recommendations for shallow, regular and deep leagues. Players are listed in order of priority and the suggested auction budget percentage is in parentheses.

Keep in mind that some leagues may be more aggressive or conservative in terms of bidding, so know your league tendencies. Regardless of the size of your league, it’s suggested that you work your way down the list and prioritize the top players in your waiver claims for this week.

Shallow leagues (8-10 teams)

Quarterback

Sorry, shallow leaguers. There isn’t likely to be any season-changing options on your waiver wire this week. For streaming options, check out the recommendations for regular leagues.

Running back

1. Rob Kelley, Washington (25%) – The Redskins are coming off their bye, but don’t forget about Kelley, especially after head coach Jay Gruden said Kelley will be the lead back and Matt Jones “will have to earn his way back.” That puts Kelley on the RB2/Flex radar at least for the near future.

2. Paul Perkins, NY Giants (20%) – Following the Giants’ Week 8 bye, the rookie pulled even with Rashad Jennings with both players seeing 14 touches on Sunday. Though it wasn’t a breakout performance, Perkins had the better numbers. Expect him to inch away from Jennings in the coming weeks and to emerge as the Giants’ lead back down the stretch.

3. C.J. Prosise, Seattle (18%) – Like Perkins, Prosise didn’t put up massive numbers in Week 9, but he did out-snap Christine Michael 26-18. While Thomas Rawls is on the verge of returning, Prosise has outplayed Michael and will continue to have a role in the Seattle offense going forward.

4. Kenneth Dixon, Baltimore (15%) – The third of our rookie trio in this week’s waiver wire, Dixon saw an increased role in Week 9 and was arguably better than Terrance West. Dixon has a three-down skill set and offers a lot of upside for the second half of the NFL season.

5. Tim Hightower, New Orleans (15%) – It’s a true committee in New Orleans with Hightower just out-snapping Mark Ingram 36-33 this past week. While Hightower led the Saints backfield in touches, expect a hot-hand approach going forward. That makes him a somewhat volatile fantasy option, but one who has flex-or-better potential every week.

Wide receiver

1. Robert Woods, Buffalo (20%) – An unlikely stud on Monday night, Woods racked up 10 catches on 13 targets for 162 yards on the Seattle secondary. While the Bills added Percy Harvin and have Sammy Watkins potentially returning for the fantasy playoffs, Woods is the clear target monster in the Buffalo offense. He isn’t the most consistent fantasy option, but his upside and target volume are worth a roster spot.

2. Sterling Shepard, NY Giants (15%) – A popular preseason breakout pick, Shepard got off to a hot start but then floundered as Eli Manning struggled over the first half of the season. However, he found the end zone last week and could benefit from a larger target share if Victor Cruz misses time.

Tight end

1. Eric Ebron, Detroit (20%) – Over the last two weeks, Ebron leads all tight ends in targets (18), receptions (14) and yards (171). While he hasn’t found the end zone over that span, his large role in the Lions’ offense bodes well for his fantasy stock going forward. Even though he’s on bye this week, scoop Ebron up.

2. Antonio Gates, San Diego (18%) – Gates is also seeing heavy volume. This past week, he was the No. 3 fantasy tight end with five catches for 75 yards and a score. Of course, that was with Hunter Henry sidelined. However, Gates was still seeing significant work with Henry on the field. Gates leads the position in targets since Week 5. He doesn’t have the upside he once had, but Gates is still a solid TE1 option.

Regular leagues (12 teams)

Quarterback

1. Colin Kaepernick, San Francisco (8%) – It’s easy to look at Kaepernick’s Week 9 numbers and think “he’s back.” But it’s important to remember that he played a putrid Saints defense and both of his touchdowns came on catch-and-run short passes. Still, Kaepernick has proven to be a viable streamer as a starter. He has a tough matchup the next two weeks, but then has one of the strongest slates down the stretch.
