Fantasy football team power rankings: 8-5

We’ve reached the elite teams on the 2016 fantasy football power rankings series, and today we’re counting down teams Nos. 8-5. There should be no surprises here.

These rankings are based on our own 2016 player projections. The series assumes a 12-team PPR league with a starting lineup of one quarterback, two running backs, two wide receivers, one tight end and one flex position. Kickers and D/STs are not accounted for.

8-5

No. 8: Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers continue to catapult up the power rankings. This season, the Panthers check in at No. 8. They were No. 19 in 2015 and No. 30 back in 2014.

Carolina offers fantasy owners 20 percent more value than the average NFL team. They have the best fantasy quarterback and the No. 3 tight end, and they have the No. 22 group of receivers. Carolina would contend for a top-three spot if they had a better group of fantasy running backs, where they rank 31st.

Cam Newton was vastly underrated heading into the 2015 season, but he reminded everyone that he is one of the best quarterbacks in fantasy — and he has been ever since entering the league.
