The best fantasy QB options to stream for Week 12

Recapping the quarterback streaming options featured in Week 11, we got yet another fruitful fantasy start out of Colin Kaepernick, while Tyrod Taylor and Blake Bortles failed to surpass their QB2 outlooks.

Two of the weekend’s top performers, Dak Prescott and Kirk Cousins, remain heavily owned but were benched in more than 60 percent of ESPN lineups.

Week 11 Fantasy Points Fantasy Rank PFF Passing Grade
Colin Kaepernick 19 8th 31st
Blake Bortles 12 20th 32nd
Tyrod Taylor 9 26th 19th

Notes: Colin Kaepernick turned in his third consecutive QB1 performance on Sunday, although our analysts graded him near the very bottom as a passer. That also helps explain why he wasn’t ranked higher than 17th by any of our fantasy staff entering Week 11. Starting Kaepernick this late in the fantasy season is not for the faint of heart, so just be aware of what lies behind the window dressing… Blake Bortles suffered a shoulder injury in the first quarter of Sunday’s loss, and his two interceptions effectively offset his fourth straight game with multiple passing scores… Tyrod Taylor has been without Sammy Watkins for most of the season, and on Sunday he also lost LeSean McCoy and Robert Woods to injury, further depleting Buffalo’s supporting cast. Sunday marked Taylor’s worst fantasy output since Week 1, which was the last time he failed to deliver at least 15 fantasy points.

With all that in mind, in the honorable mention section further down the page I thought I’d change things up this week and highlight some names that you’ll want to think twice about benching this week. With 20 QBs currently rostered in more than half of ESPN leagues and no byes on tap for Week 12, our viable streaming options are limited.

Below are the most attractive lightly owned options for QB streaming in Week 12, listed by ownership and start percentages from ESPN leagues as well as FanDuel salary.

Week 12

Colin Kaepernick (SF @ MIA) – 17% owned/6.5% started/$7,200 FanDuel salary

Across his last five games since reclaiming the 49ers’ starting gig in Week 6, Kaepernick has been outscored only by Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers and Marcus Mariota among fantasy quarterbacks. Averaging better than 20 fantasy points per game in that span, Kaepernick has rushed for a position-best 260 yards (and a touchdown) on 37 carries — that’s a 16-game pace of 832 rushing yards. You’d have to go back to 2013 when Kaepernick finished as a top-10 fantasy QB to find the last time he’s been this productive over a similar stretch. Regardless whether he’s here to stay or not, Kaepernick deserves to be taken seriously, as he now ranks seventh on the season in fantasy points per dropback (0.51).
