The best fantasy QB options to stream for Week 10

Week 9 marked the second straight week for the chalk at quarterback, as Colin Kaepernick was the only top-10 fantasy quarterback owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues. A fantasy breakout certainly wasn’t widely forecast for Kaepernick, who was started in only 17 percent of lineups. Nevertheless, he feasted on a Saints defense that had just held Russell Wilson below 10 fantasy points the previous week.

Week 9 also proved disappointing for owners of Cam Newton, Matthew Stafford, Andrew Luck and Derek Carr, all of whom finished outside of QB1 status. With 12 teams going on bye over the past two weeks, the field of widely available streaming options has been narrowed considerably, as a whopping 20 QBs are now owned in more than half of ESPN leagues. However, six of those 20 were benched in the majority of leagues (plus Russell Wilson and Tyrod Taylor on Monday night), and that group included Marcus Mariota (QB2), Eli Manning (QB8), Blake Bortles (QB9), and Ben Roethlisberger (QB10).

Here’s a look at last week’s recommended streamers:

Week 9 Fantasy Points Fantasy Rank PFF Passing Grade
Sam Bradford 15 15th 15th
Ryan Tannehill 10 23rd 21st
Carson Wentz 10 23rd 19th

Notes: Sam Bradford posted the week’s second-best adjusted completion percentage (86.8), but also the second-lowest average depth of target (5.7)… The lowest aDOT belonged to Ryan Tannehill (4.3), who has effectively become a game manager in the wake of Jay Ajayi’s breakout. Following the Dolphins’ third straight win, head coach Adam Gase said he’s “never going to go away” from Ajayi, which confirms that we now have every reason to stay away from Tannehill… More on Carson Wentz in a moment. While he had some shaky moments – namely, two early interceptions on poorly thrown balls – there is reason for optimism.

Looking ahead to Week 10, four more teams have a bye, which takes Stafford, Luck, Carr and Taylor out of the mix. Each of those guys has ranked among the top-10 fantasy QBs for the season.
On the injury front, Ben Roethlisberger will get another week to get his surgically repaired knee right, while the Chiefs expect Alex Smith to return from his concussion.

Below are the most attractive options for QB streaming in Week 10, listed by ownership and start percentages from ESPN leagues as well as FanDuel salary. Deeper league options are listed in the honorable mention section.

Week 10

Jay Cutler (CHI @ TB) – 3.6% owned/$7,000 FanDuel salary

While he didn’t exactly put up video-game numbers in his return from a thumb injury in Week 8, Cutler was very much in control of Chicago’s offense. Most notably, he did not turn the ball over, and the Bears came away with a double-digit victory over a tough Vikings defense. Cutler’s average of 8.18 yards per attempt was fourth-best for the week, and when kept clean, he was 16-of-19 (including a drop) for 189 yards and a touchdown.
