In this very piece last week, I wrote “We’re heading into Week 2, and that unfortunately brings us injuries to fill on our fantasy rosters.” But there was no way that you could have been prepared for what Week 2 did to the landscape of fantasy football rosters.
It’s now as important as ever that we nail this piece, because the losses of Adrian Peterson, Donte Moncrief, Corey Coleman, Ameer Abdullah and others looms large. If you missed out on some of the top waiver claims this week, have no worry. As we do here every week, I’m going to give you some players who are less than 50 percent owned and can help fill the void left by these players in that particular week.
Quarterbacks
Ryan Tannehill, Dolphins (41 percent owned)
There are plenty of Tannehill haters out there, but you can’t avoid him forever. This is a different offense, and one that is allowing him to run the ball again. After adding value in fantasy leagues with his legs in 2013 and 2014, he was seemingly stripped of that ability in 2015. He averaged 17.1 rushing yards per game in 2013-2014, but then just 8.8 in 2015. Through two games, he’s already accumulated 52 yards rushing and a touchdown.
In Week 3, he’ll get as good as matchup as you can hope for in a streamer. He’ll be at home, with a lack of much of a running game (Arian Foster is out this week), and playing against the Browns, who’ll be without Robert Griffin III, Josh McCown, Corey Coleman and potentially Joe Haden. This is a Browns defense that has allowed multiple touchdown passes in 14 of their last 18 games, and now the Dolphins have Jarvis Landry and DeVante Parker on the field together. In the seven games they’ve been on the field for significant snaps together, Tannehill has thrown for 329 or more yards in four of them and multiple touchdowns in three of them.
