Start/sit advice for Week 3 in IDP leagues

We’ve got two weeks of stats under our belts now, so the matchup data we crave as fantasy football owners to help us with our weekly start-sit decisions is beginning to filter in. It’s still a little on the early side to have total confidence in the numbers (sample size!) so playing time and form will continue to be major factors in these recommendations. Either way, here is the top start/sit advice for Week 3 in IDP leagues.

Edge rushers

Through the first two games, the most porous offensive lines have been the Colts (allowed eight sacks, three hits and 24 hurries) and Chiefs (seven sacks, five hits and 14 hurries), so that is where we will turn our attention to first this week.

Indianapolis is at home against San Diego, a 3-4 defense without any outstanding pass-rushers, which tempers my enthusiasm somewhat, while the Chiefs host the fearsome D-line of the Jets. The trio of Muhammad Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson and Leonard Williams will all be projected for decent scoring days, and even DT Steve McLendon, who has two sacks this year already, may get his name on the box score. Wilkerson will rank as a top-five defensive lineman for me this week, with both Williams and Richardson edging into the back end of the DL2 tier as well. Back with the Chargers it’s hard to make a case for anyone other than Corey Liuget, a player who has struggled during his career to produce big plays. Averaging five sacks a year over the last four seasons sums up his limited upside, but Liuget has a higher floor than many of his peers due to his tackle totals. If he can lay a strong hand on Andrew Luck this week he would be a borderline DL2/3 in my books.
