Week 13 fantasy start/sit advice

As always, we’ll kick off this column by looking back at the 10 players we advised to start or sit in the week before. We hit on our fringe start/sit quarterbacks. Both Ben Roethlisberger and Eli Manning scored more than the alternatives you were likely considering. DeVante Parker was on his way to a big game but he got injured on a long reception that was overturned. He also had a touchdown overturned. We’re taking a push on that one. Running backs were tough for us — both Rashad Jennings and Thomas Rawls struggled with volume and didn’t score in premier matchups.

Breaking down the players we advised to sit went a lot smoother. Alex Smith and Matthew Stafford were best left on your bench. Matt Forte and Jeremy Hill carried hype in the form of volume heading into the game, but neither did much. We had one swing and miss — Terrelle Pryor. To be fair, Pryor didn’t get going until the second half when the Giants used zone coverage.

Anyway, now it’s time to jump into Week 13’s start/sit advice. Let’s go.

Colin Kaepernick, QB, 49ers (vs. Bears)

Is Kaepernick officially back? His game tape in Week 12 would suggest it. Before we jump back onto the real-life quarterback bandwagon, we need a larger sample size of games like Week 12. As far as fantasy football goes, we’ve seen what we need to. Kaepernick has been piling up fantasy points over the past four weeks. Over that time span, only Aaron Rodgers has more fantasy points than Kaepernick.

Would you start Kap or Stafford this week? I’m leaning Kap even though Stafford gets to tee off on NO.
Mostly agree except sitting Cousins. He lit up Minnesota 2 weeks ago, hung 40 on Dallas, and hit Philly earlier in the year for over 20. He’s matchup-proof at this point, and another PFF article recommended streaming the Redskins D against Arizona which means Palmer is probably going to get sacked a lot and/or turn the ball over. Which will give Cousins even more shots against this defense. I’m not betting against him even if Jordan Reed sits, Vernon Davis is grading out in the top 10 in his limited action.

I’d leave Stafford benched and play Kap. Lions are just driving the pace of game down so low that Stafford has to be ultra efficient to produce anything more than 250 – 280 and 1 or 2 TDs. For me, that’s Kap’s floor at this point.

I’m in the same boat with Stafford or Kaep. I think it’s worth monitoring the weather in Chicago. Sloppy field conditions could slow down Kaep from running effectively.

Thanks for asking that question, I have the same situation!

I wouldn’t think of starting Kaep in Chicago over Stafford nuf said.

Kap or Newton? I’m also monitoring the weather, and Chicago doesnt look very nice right now. Scattered showers in Seattle for Cam against a defense that is pissed off from last week, makes this decision a pain. What do u think Dan?

Go with Kap, People don’t care for him but it’s the results your looking for. I’m from Charlotte and the Panthers O-Line is banged up bad. Honestly, they should sit Cam to protect him from a bad injury. Their not going anywhere this season. Good Luck.

You imply the Chargers are nearly a D to avoid but their their points allowed imply nothing of the sort – I’m starting Evans with confidence whether I start Martin over Booker? meh.. likely not – but good problem to have. Points allowed:
    Chiefs 33
    Jaguars 14
    Colts 26
    Saints 35
    Raiders 34
    Broncos 13
    Falcons 30
    Broncos 27
    Titans 35
    Dolphins 31
    Texans 13
