Just because the NFL regular season is over doesn’t mean you have to stop playing fantasy football. Aside from DFS, which rolls through the Super Bowl, now is the perfect time to grab five friends and start a fantasy football playoffs pool.
The rules are simple and the strategy is unique — the objective is to draft a team that plays the most total games. The easiest way to do that is by building out your NFL playoffs bracket with all of your predictions through the Super Bowl. The next step is to fill your squad with players your project to play in as many games as possible. The easiest way to accomplish that is by stacking players on the same team and you’ll see that as a common trend throughout this draft.
Several of the PFF fantasy staff got together online and completed a staff playoffs fantasy league mock draft. It was a slow draft done without a timer and in the snake format.
The scoring rules are as follows:
- Six points for a rushing or receiving touchdown. Four points for a passing touchdown.
- One point for every 10 yards rushing or receiving. One point for every 25 yards passing.
- 0.5 points for every reception.
- A loss of one point for every interception or fumble lost.
- Two points for a two-point conversion.
- Kickers: One point for every extra point. Three points for a field goal under 40 yards, four points for a field goal from 40-49 and five points for a field goal of 50+ yards.
- Defense: Two points for an interception or fumble recovery, six points for touchdown, four points for safety, one point for sack
Teams were drafted with a strict roster requirement of two quarterbacks, two running backs, two wide receivers, one flex, one tight end, two defenses and two kickers. Of course, as in most playoff leagues, there is no bench. When your player is eliminated you no longer score any points in that position. The team that scores the most cumulative points is the winner. The teams and draft order were as follows:
1. Pat Thorman
2. Michael Moore
3. Mike Tagliere
4. Jeff Ratcliffe
5. Daniel Kelley
6. Dan Schneier (me)
