There’s nothing quite like setting your DraftKings lineup in Week 1. You usually only have a week (or less) to mix and match players to set the best lineup, but with Week 1, you get a full month of tinkering with lineups.
But after all that preparation, you still have to decide on the optimal Week 1 lineup. I used our DFS Lineup Optimizer to help reach a conclusion.
To be sure, this lineup features a number of “chalk” plays this week. But they are going to be owned by a lot of players for a reason — they are among the best options of the week. If you’re looking to go the contrarian route, be sure to check out Scott Barrett’s primer on the strategy, and check back on Saturday for his top contrarian plays of the week.
Without further ado, here’s the optimal DraftKings lineup for Week 1:
QB: Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys, $5,000
Prescott is a minimum-priced quarterback who has everything you want from your DraftKings starter. He has an elite target in Dez Bryant (especially in the red zone). He has a soon-to-be-stud running back in Ezekiel Elliott to help keep drives alive and defenses honest. He is playing behind a tremendous offensive line. He can also rack up the points by rushing. And per our projected box scores, the Dallas-New York game is expected to be the third-highest-scoring contest of the week. And did we mention he’s as cheap as possible?
The only thing Prescott seems to lack is experience, but what we did see of Prescott this preseason was more than encouraging. He had five passing touchdowns and two rushing scores. No quarterback scored more fantasy points than him this preseason.
