We’re almost halfway through the 2016 season and many fantasy teams are trending either toward the top or the bottom. If you’re one of those fortunate enough to be in the playoff hunt, there are some players that could be good mid-season pickups to help lead you to the promised land. For others, it might be time to unload your one shining star and start looking towards next year. And for any team with some of these players, you should get out while you can no matter where you are in the standings.
This is the midseason update of the dynasty stock watch, looking at changing future values of some noteworthy players.
Quarterbacks
Blake Bortles, Jacksonville Jaguars
Bortles presents a stark contrast of fantasy versus real life, even in dynasty. In fantasy, he threw for 4,400 yards and 35 touchdowns in 2015. The yards were good for seventh in the league last season while the touchdowns were the third-most all-time for a player 24 or younger. He also had an elite receiving option in Allen Robinson, also yet to hit 24 years old, at the onset of his career after totaling 1,400 receiving yards. Needless to say, Bortles’ fantasy prospects looked great.
But in real life, Bortles was just average. He was PFF’s 14th-rated passer last year, despite the high totals in yards and touchdowns. Worse, he finished 25th out of 27 quarterbacks in PFF’s adjust completion percentage (which accounts for things like drops) and 26th out of 27 in PFF’s accuracy percentage under pressure. To top it off, he led the league in interceptions with 18 and lost five more fumbles.
