Dynasty Stock Watch, Week 2: Who has improved their standing?

Week 1 is in the books and we finally have some game action to reference. For redraft leagues, the season is already 1/16th or 1/17th over, but for dynasty, Week 1 could set the tone for multiple seasons. And while one game doesn’t determine a career, it can be the beginning of one. Let’s take a look at who improved their dynasty stock the most after the first game of the season.

Quarterback: Jameis Winston, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Even before Winston’s stellar Week 1 performance — 281 yards and four touchdowns on the road against the Falcons — he should have been climbing up your dynasty ranks. During his rookie season, he was already a middle-of-the-pack quarterback, stringing together one of the better first seasons for a quarterback in history. His 22 passing touchdowns tied for fourth all-time by a rookie behind only Peyton Manning, Russell Wilson and Andrew Luck while throwing the second-fewest interceptions among that group. Furthermore, his 4,042 passing yards ranked third all-time for a rookie behind only Luck and Cam Newton. In both cases, Winston was part of a small but eventually elite group of quarterbacks.

And there’s no reason to think that his rookie year was a fluke or that he won’t be able to progress. He’s playing for Dirk Koetter, who turned Matt Ryan into a top-11 fantasy quarterback all three years Koetter was his offensive coordinator. He has a stud receiver in Mike Evans, who just barely turned 23. Winston himself is just 22, nearly five years younger than quarterbacks typically ahead of him in dynasty rankings like Luck, Newton and Wilson, which theoretically means five extra years of production. Winston is on the cusp of becoming a top-five dynasty quarterback but I see no reason he shouldn’t already be there.
