Just because season-long fantasy football is over (for the vast majority of leagues, anyway), it doesn’t mean you need to crawl into a hole for the next eight months until draft season rolls around again. No, instead, take this time to hone your DFS skills, to see what works for you and what doesn’t. One of the first lessons is learning who to avoid when setting your lineups, which is where this article comes in. I mentioned last week that we have more data than ever, and that the fades/locks should be as good as ever. The only player that we missed on last week was Kirk Cousins, as I was unfortunately unable to project his two rushing touchdowns. I’ll try to do better this week.
If this is your first visit to the fades of the week, here’s what you can expect: Below, you’ll find two quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers and one tight end to avoid in your Week 17 lineups. As usual, there are players to avoid simply because their matchup is a not worth the risk, but it’s important to know that this week is an odd one, because there are some players who need to be avoided because they may not play very much. Don’t know what players/teams those are? No worries, because that’s part of the information that will be included.
Quarterbacks
Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys (at Eagles)
Prescott played the entirety of the game against the Lions. Combine that with Jerry Jones’ statements after the game saying that they don’t want to risk putting Tony Romo out there, and you’ll have plenty of people looking to start Prescott against the Eagles. Truth be told, Prescott shouldn’t have taken more than a quarter off in the Monday night game, and he should play at least a half in this game. I say that because you have to continue the momentum that they’ve built throughout the year, and they already have a first-round bye in the playoffs, which would mean resting Prescott here would essentially put him on ice for multiple weeks. So why is he a fade? Because the Eagles are a different defense at home, allowing just 15.9 points per game at home compared to the 25.9 they allow on the road. That obviously has a negative effect on quarterbacks — just one has been able to score more than 16 fantasy points, and that was Aaron Rodgers, who has been terrorizing defenses no matter the opponent. Quarterbacks have averaged just 13.3 standard fantasy points while playing in Philadelphia. And it’s important to note that the Eagles have played against Eli Manning, Kirk Cousins, Matt Ryan and Ben Roethlisberger at home, which speaks volumes to their accomplishments there. Add in the fact that there is definitely a possibility that the Dallas guys play one half, and it’s a situation to avoid.
